For the JCU Exchange Program, undergraduate applicants must have successfully completed at least six months (one semester) of full-time study at a recognised higher education institution and achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0 out of 7.0, or equivalent passing grades as assessed by JCU. Postgraduate students applying for the Exchange Program must have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution. Academic entry requirements vary by country of origin, and JCU assesses qualifications on a country-by-country basis. Students must also be currently enrolled at one of JCU's designated partner universities — if their home institution is not an exchange partner, they may instead apply through the separate JCU Study Abroad program.
English language proficiency is required for students whose native language is not English. Accepted tests include Academic IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic), and test results must have been obtained no more than two years prior to course commencement at JCU. Some students may be exempt from language testing requirements if they have studied through an English-medium education system within five years of their proposed commencement date, depending on their country of origin. All applicants must also hold or be eligible to apply for an Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) and are required to hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the full duration of their stay in Australia as a condition of their visa. Students should apply through their home university's international or study abroad office, which will coordinate the formal nomination to JCU.
