A Masters Qualifying Program (MQP) in Management and Commerce is a structured pathway program designed to bridge the gap between a student's existing academic qualifications and the entry requirements for a postgraduate Master's degree in business, management, or commerce. It is typically a non-award or pathway qualification completed over one semester to one year, comprising four core units delivered at a pre-postgraduate level. The program equips students with the academic literacy, numeracy, digital skills, critical thinking, and intercultural communication competencies needed to succeed in a full Master's degree environment in Australia. Students are introduced to key management and business concepts, postgraduate research methods, academic writing conventions, and professional communication frameworks that underpin further study in disciplines such as commerce, accounting, project management, information systems, and public health administration.

The MQP is primarily aimed at international students or domestic graduates who hold a post-secondary or bachelor-level qualification but whose academic background, GPA, or field of study does not meet the direct entry requirements for their chosen Master's program. Based on a student's academic qualifications, English proficiency, and professional experience, they may enter either a standard or accelerated version of the program. Upon successful completion, students gain direct articulation into a wide range of highly regarded Master's degrees — including the Master of Commerce, Master of Professional Accounting, Master of Project Management, Master of Business Administration, Master of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and many others — at the partnering university. The Masters Qualifying Program is designed for students who hold a post-secondary qualification — typically a minimum of an Advanced Diploma or a bachelor's degree — but who do not meet the academic requirements for direct entry into their chosen Master's degree. This may be because their undergraduate GPA fell below the required credit average (typically 60–65% or equivalent), their degree was in an unrelated discipline, or their qualification was obtained from an institution not fully recognised by the partnering Australian university. Students enter either a standard or accelerated pathway based on their prior qualifications, English proficiency, and professional background.

Most providers require an overall IELTS Academic score of between 5.5 and 6.5, depending on the level of the pathway (standard vs accelerated), with minimum sub-scores in reading and writing. Equivalent scores from PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, or Cambridge Advanced English are also typically accepted. Some providers allow students who narrowly miss English requirements to complete an Academic English pathway program concurrently or prior to the MQP. Work experience is generally not a mandatory requirement for MQP entry, distinguishing it from MBA-style postgraduate programs that often require three to five years of professional experience.
