The University of Tasmania's English Language Programs are delivered by the University's English Language Centre in Hobart for students who need to improve their English to qualify for further study or enhance their job opportunities. The program is offered in blocks of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 weeks (CRICOS 0101853) across nine ELC study periods a year, with entry level and study length set by placement testing and any recognised evidence of ability such as a current IELTS result. The Direct Entry / English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program builds academic English alongside general proficiency; completing it meets the English language requirements to study your chosen University of Tasmania degree, and over 95% of students pass it.

Teaching staff hold university degrees and specialist postgraduate qualifications in Teaching English as a Second Language, with an average of 20 years' experience, and the Centre has received several English Australia Awards for Innovation. Courses use Tasmanian and Australian content so you build both English skills and cultural insight. Tuition fees for 2027 are $515.34 AUD per week, or $2,576.70 AUD per 5 weeks (2026: $490.80 per week, $2,454 per 5 weeks).
