Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying

The CPC33020 Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying at Orange College reflects the trade-qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver who may have responsibility for undertaking heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, industrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions. To achieve the qualification, candidates must demonstrate competency in 28 units — 20 core units and 8 electives. Core units cover handling and preparing bricklaying and blocklaying materials, using bricklaying and blocklaying tools and equipment, carrying out masonry veneer and cavity brick construction, laying masonry walls and corners, laying multi-thickness walls and piers, installing flashings and damp proof course, constructing masonry arches, curved walls and masonry structural systems, setting out, basic levelling, erecting and dismantling restricted height scaffolding, working safely at heights, and reading and interpreting plans and specifications.

Completion of the general construction induction training program specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work is required by anyone carrying out construction work, and achievement of CPCCWHS1001 meets this requirement. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states, and the relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted. The course is delivered as full-time study over 59 weeks with 10 weeks as breaks/holidays, and the duration may vary depending on the mode of delivery and any recognition of prior learning or credit transfer. Orange College uses a blended learning model combining 70% face-to-face delivery with 30% Guided Online Learning and Training (GOLT). The elective selection has been validated through industry consultation.
