About This Course

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) at Orange College reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Workers take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation, and have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support. To be awarded the qualification, learners must be deemed competent in 15 units — 9 core units and 6 electives — covering providing individualised support, facilitating the empowerment of people receiving support, supporting independence and wellbeing, recognising healthy body systems, communicating and working in health or community services, working with diverse people, working legally and ethically, infection prevention and control, and safe work practices for direct client care.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice, and candidates must complete at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the units' assessment requirements. Orange College delivers this qualification as full-time study over 17 weeks — 12 weeks of training, 2 weeks of term break and 3 weeks of structured work placement — with a Fast Track option available. Theory classes are delivered online via Zoom, while simulated activities are conducted at the Orange College campus and/or designated Simulation Lab facilities; practical sessions may also be held at external locations equipped with appropriate laboratory facilities. Selecting all Group A and all Group B electives leads to the combined Ageing and Disability specialisation.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Domestic:

All students must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the College.
Satisfactory completion of studies equivalent to an Australian Year 10 or above qualification.
Students must demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to an IELTS overall band score of 4.5, OR ELICOS Intermediate Level in Orange College's English Placement Test.
Learners must be competent in written and spoken English and will undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) test prior to commencing the training.
Access to a personal device with camera and speaker functions (Bring Your Own Device Policy applies).

Placement requirements:

National Criminal History (Police) Check.
NDIS Worker Screening Check — required for disability-related placements.
Working with Children Check (WWCC) – Volunteer Card.
Immunisation History Record with up-to-date immunisation documentation.
COVID-19 vaccination — evidence of at least three doses.
Flu vaccination proof — mandatory for placements in aged care facilities.
Ability to safely perform manual handling and lifting.
Students commencing offshore must provide a statutory declaration confirming they will arrange their National Police Check, NDIS Worker Check and Working with Children Check upon arrival onshore.
