Advanced Diploma of Accounting

The FNS60222 Advanced Diploma of Accounting at Thames International College reflects the role of individuals working in accounting and seeking professional recognition, including tax agents, accounts managers and business analysts, and of employees performing a range of accounts management tasks for organisations across a range of industries.

At this level individuals are expected to apply theoretical and technical skills in a range of situations and to display initiative and judgement in planning activities. They have autonomy in performing complex operations, and can be responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of others within broad but generally well-defined parameters. The qualification comprises 14 units — 3 core and 11 electives — spanning corporate governance, economic principles, financial statistics and tools, tax documentation for legal entities, business performance evaluation, complex corporate financial reports, financial services legislation and industry codes of practice, complex ethical decision making, ethical frameworks, managing meetings, business risk, workplace communication, critical thinking and strategic business networks.

The qualification includes units that comprise an approved Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) course in Australian taxation law and commercial law, relevant for registration as a tax agent.

The course runs for 52 weeks in total (40 study weeks delivered as 4 terms of 10 weeks, plus 12 weeks of holidays) at the North Sydney campus, delivered face-to-face in the classroom combined with distance learning — 14 hours of class plus 6 hours of structured distance training each week.
