Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design

The RII60520 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design equips students with the advanced skills and knowledge needed to excel in the civil construction industry, preparing them for roles as senior civil works designers or para-professional designers supporting professional engineers. The course covers a broad range of specialised, complex and technical design tasks, including strategic planning and the initiation of key project activities, and trains students to design complex civil construction projects that meet client and site requirements. It emphasises the self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge, enabling graduates to solve technical problems and meet management demands in a fast-moving industry. Across its 12 units of competency, students develop skills in managing civil works design processes, establishing and maintaining quality systems, managing program risk and team effectiveness, and applying safe design principles to control WHS risks, along with elective units in detailed motorway and interchange design, traffic analysis, and project scope, time and quality management. The course runs over 94 weeks, including 72 weeks of training and 22 weeks of holidays, delivered face-to-face on-campus at VIC's Adelaide, Brisbane and Gold Coast campuses. Graduates are prepared for senior industry roles such as Civil Engineering Draftsperson, Civil Engineering Design Draftsperson, Civil Engineering Technician, Road Design Draftsperson, Senior Civil Construction Designer and Structural Engineering Drafting Officer.
