About This Course

The Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design (RII60520, CRICOS 113846C) is delivered by Greenhill Institute Pty Ltd at its Brunswick, Victoria campus, face to face in a classroom with access to a simulated environment.

The qualification reflects the role of a senior civil works designer or para-professional designer supporting professional engineers. Graduates perform broad, specialised, complex and technical design tasks, are responsible for the design of complex projects to meet client site requirements, and are expected to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge to solve technical problems.

The course runs over 56 weeks (including holiday breaks), with a total volume of learning of 1,220 hours and a minimum requirement of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week. Entry requires completion of RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design (or mature-age assessment).

Students complete 12 units of competency: 5 core units covering WHS risk in design, quality systems, team effectiveness, program risk and civil works design processes, plus 7 elective units in urban roads, concrete/timber/geotechnical design, leadership, project time and innovation management.

Graduates may progress to other Advanced Diploma qualifications (e.g. Extractive Industries Management, Drilling Management) or higher education. Total course fees are AU$55,500, comprising AU$45,000 in tuition and AU$10,500 in non-tuition fees.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design (or be assessed as a mature-age entrant, see below).
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
A Pre-Training Review (PTR) is completed before enrolment to assess the applicant’s existing competencies, support needs, English level and oral communication skills.
International students (on-shore or off-shore) require a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) for direct entry into the VET course, OR IELTS 5.5 with up to 10 weeks of ELICOS beforehand, OR IELTS 5.0 with up to 20 weeks of ELICOS beforehand, OR an Oxford Placement Test score of 61 or higher. Test results must be no more than two years old.
Mature-age applicants without the standard entry requirements may be considered on the basis of at least 2 years’ relevant work experience (supported by a reference letter, work samples and CV), subject to individual assessment and possible Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which may adjust course duration/volume of learning.
A Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) test, assessed against ACSF Performance Level 4 for this qualification, is completed prior to commencement; students identified as needing extra support are offered internal and/or external assistance.
Basic computer literacy is required; support is provided for students who do not already have it.
Students must have access to a laptop or computer (Windows 7 or later), the internet, IT software (FreeCAD/BricsCAD/AutoCAD, Revit) and Microsoft Office, an active email address, and be contactable by phone.
