About This Course

The Advanced Diploma of Game Programming, delivered by Torrens University Australia trading as Billy Blue College of Design, develops the technical, analytical and problem-solving expertise required to build modern games and interactive experiences across PC, mobile and console platforms. Students gain hands-on experience with algorithms, C++, data structures, computer architecture, mathematics, physics and communication networks, learning how these components integrate to produce responsive, immersive game systems from early concept through to production. Learning takes place in collaborative, studio-style environments shaped by experienced educators and an industry-informed curriculum, applying software engineering project management principles while working in teams on projects of increasing technical complexity alongside game design students. Learning outcomes include demonstrating an understanding of game programming fundamentals and ethical conduct in a global context, applying best practice to solve complex game programming problems, using industry-standard methods and tools in digital game projects, and communicating game programming ideas effectively across diverse audiences and cultural groups.

Students can explore Unreal Engine to build advanced 3D skills, receive a free Adobe Creative Cloud Pro licence for the duration of their studies and six months after graduation, and gain exclusive access to PlayStation 5 Professional Development Kits and Tools through the PlayStation First Academic Development Partner program. The course is delivered online, on campus and in blended mode over 1.7 years full time (5 trimesters, or 1 year accelerated, part-time options available), from the Sydney campus and online, with intakes in September 2026, and February, May and September 2027.

General Requirements

Domestic students — Admission criteria:

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent
Successful completion of a Vocational qualification (AQF Level 5), or above
Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6 or above, or equivalent
Work life experience demonstrating the ability to undertake study at the required level, which may include approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment

International students — Admission criteria:

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent
Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent Senior Secondary qualification, or Baccalaureate Diploma
Academic IELTS 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or equivalent
Alternative entry requirements may be available, which may include assessment and approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment

Course fees can be paid across three study periods, with each instalment due before the beginning of the academic stage census date. A range of financial scholarships is available to support international students.
