Students must successfully complete a total of 33 units of competency to achieve the SIT60322 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management. This comprises 14 core units and 19 elective units.
The course is delivered over 100 weeks consisting of 82 weeks of tuition and 18 weeks of holidays. Classes are scheduled for 20 hours of face-to-face delivery per week consisting of 8 hours per day for 2 days and one day for 4 hours per week. In addition, students are expected to undertake 4 hours of unsupervised independent study and assessment outside of scheduled class time per week, and may optionally attend supervised study sessions for 4 hours per week during term time.
All face-to-face delivery takes place at Ashton College's training facilities at two locations: the head campus at 213 Nicholson Street, Footscray Melbourne Victoria 3011, and the Ashton College Training Kitchen at Ashton Hotel School, 108 Newquay Promenade, Docklands, Victoria 3008 Australia. Students will be timetabled to attend classes at both campus locations.
International students must have a minimum English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0 overall band score, or equivalent. Other accepted tests include PTE Academic (minimum 50), Cambridge English Advanced/CAE (minimum 169), OET (at least B for each component), and TOEFL iBT (minimum 64). Lower scores may be accepted if the course is accompanied by ELICOS study. Citizens holding a valid passport from Canada, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America are exempt from the English language test requirement.
Students who successfully complete this qualification may progress into a Bachelor of Hospitality Management or higher education qualifications in management. In terms of employment, this qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector for a diversity of employers including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops, with possible job titles including banquet or function manager, bar manager, café manager, chef de cuisine, executive housekeeper, front office manager, restaurant manager, and sous chef, among others.
