Common Questions
For international students, the course runs for 9 Terms (9x10 week terms), consisting of 20 hours of training per week, plus 10 weeks of Industry Work Placement — totalling approximately 100 weeks.
Students are required to complete one term of work placement. For the Cookery & Food and Beverage Pathway, this involves 36 shifts for SITHIND008 Work effectively in hospitality service. The Commercial Cookery Pathway requires work placement for SITHCCC043 Work effectively as a cook, and the Patisserie Pathway requires work placement for SITHKOP013 Plan cooking operations.
Graduates can pursue roles such as Hotel/Motel General Manager, Operations Manager, and Function/Events Manager. Further study pathways include Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Hospitality Management, and short courses such as RSA, RCG, and Food Safety Supervisor Certificate are available to boost employability.
International students must demonstrate English proficiency with an IELTS score of 6.0 with no band score below 5.5. All applicants may also need to complete a language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) assessment.
The Advanced Diploma of Hospitality offers two main pathways: the Commercial Cookery or Patisserie pathway, designed for those who have completed a Certificate III or IV in Kitchen Management or Patisserie, and the Food and Beverage pathway, which includes elective units on operating a bar, Australian Wines, and RSA course training for those looking to move into hotel or hospitality management.
