Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management

The Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management (SIT60322) is a nationally recognised vocational qualification offered by The Canberra Training School Pty. Ltd., trading as Canberra Business and Technology College (CBTC). It reflects the role of highly skilled senior managers who combine a broad range of hospitality skills with specialised managerial skills and substantial industry knowledge to coordinate hospitality operations, operating with significant autonomy and responsibility for strategic business decisions.

Training is delivered in a blended mode combining scheduled face-to-face classroom learning with online learning activities, and includes a mandatory work placement of 80 hours in a regulated hospitality setting such as a restaurant, hotel or club. Learners are recommended to commit a minimum of 35–45 hours per week to class participation, homework, self-study, work placement, assignment activities and assessments across the 104-week course.

The qualification covers 33 units of competency (14 core and 19 elective), spanning organisational finance, business planning, legal risk, recruitment, staff performance, marketing strategy and workplace health and safety systems. It provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector for a diversity of employers including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés and coffee shops, with scope to multi-skill in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage, and gaming.
