Common Questions
The qualification is delivered over 99 weeks, which includes 78 weeks of training and assessment and 12 weeks of holidays. Students are required to attend face-to-face training and assessment 20 hours per week in a classroom.
The course is delivered at two campus locations: Level 1, 9 Bay Street, SOUTHPORT, Queensland 4215 (Gold Coast) and Level 6, 16-18 Wentworth St, PARRAMATTA, NSW, 2150 (Sydney).
International students must demonstrate English language proficiency. Minimum scores without ELICOS include: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 64, Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 169, PTE Academic 50, and Occupational English Test (OET) a B for each test component. Lower scores may be accepted with additional ELICOS study (at least 10 or 20 weeks).
This qualification offers a pathway to employment in various hospitality industry sectors for employers including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. It supports skills in business plans, finance and budgeting, human resources management, marketing management, and hotel and resort management. Graduates may also enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) to further enhance their knowledge and skills.
Assessment is competency-based and uses a variety of strategies to uphold the principles of validity. Classroom-based assessment includes classroom exercises, assignments, practical demonstrations, group activities, projects, and verbal and/or written questions. Students may also be assessed through a combination of continuous assessment and examinations. Dates of assessment are provided on the first day of class along with a timetable, and students are advised well in advance of assessment activities.
