The course is delivered face-to-face for 20 hours per week over 104 weeks, including term breaks. In term 5, students will also need to complete a work placement of 192 hours as part of their course.
The total tuition fee is $15,500 AUD, with a non-refundable application fee of $250 AUD and a material fee of $1,200 AUD. Fees are paid in study periods, with the deposit for study period 1 being $2,050 AUD tuition fees plus the $250 AUD application fee and $1,200 AUD material fee. Subsequent study periods range from $2,050 AUD to $1,150 AUD for the final period.
Yes, Mercury Institute of Victoria offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer to all students at the time of enrolment. RPL enables students who have not undertaken the unit or equivalent, but have the required knowledge and skills, to demonstrate competency for the unit in an assessment only pathway. An RPL kit is available for candidates wishing to apply, and information sessions are available to support candidates in their application.
International students must demonstrate an English language proficiency level of either an IELTS band score of 6.0 or equivalent, or for students from assessment Level 1 countries, they may sit the Mercury Institute of Victoria English Placement Test as an alternative.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector and for a diversity of employers including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. Possible career outcomes include Manager/Owner/Chef of a small restaurant or café, or Executive Chef/Manager/General Manager/Food and Beverage Manager at a large hotel.
