About This Course

The Advanced Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration, delivered by Torrens University Australia trading as Billy Blue College of Design, was built in response to changing industry standards and equips students with the skills to gain recognition as an interior designer creating spaces that stand out. Whether designing from the ground up or revamping residential and commercial spaces, students learn to fuse style, comfort and sustainability through hands-on projects, developing decorative schemes and selecting furnishings and finishes, while also building industry skills such as supervising interior projects, waterproofing wet rooms, and applying an entrepreneurial, ethically-minded approach to design. Learning outcomes include creating decorative schemes, furnishings and finishes that integrate efficiency, comfort and sustainability, producing floor plans, elevations, technical drawings and 3D models using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD and SketchUp Pro, and completing a capstone project that analyses a commercial brief and generates design concepts. Students complete 120 hours of experience through an internship or live industry brief.

The course includes a partnership with Vogue Australia offering internship, mentoring and scholarship opportunities, and an exclusive ambassadorship with design icon Sibella Court, founder of Sibella Court Studio, plus a free Adobe Creative Cloud Pro licence for the duration of study and six months after graduation. The course is delivered online, on campus and in blended mode over 1.7 years full time (5 trimesters, or 1 year accelerated, part-time options available), across the Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane campuses and online, with intakes in September 2026 and February 2027.

General Requirements

Domestic students — Admission criteria:

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent
Successful completion of a Vocational qualification (AQF Level 4), or above
Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent
Work life experience demonstrating the ability to undertake study at the required level, which may include approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment

Check the domestic course fee schedule for the cost of your course. Eligible Australian students may choose to defer some, or all, of their tuition fees through FEE-HELP. Design, Vogue Australia, Industry and Alumni scholarships are available.

International students — Admission criteria:

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent
Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent Senior Secondary qualification, or Baccalaureate Diploma
Academic IELTS 6.0 (no band less than 5.0) or equivalent
Alternative entry requirements may be available, which may include assessment and approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment

Course fees can be paid across three study periods, with each instalment due before the beginning of the academic stage census date. A range of financial scholarships is available to support international students.

If you have already completed a qualification or gained skills through life or work experience, you may be able to credit this against your degree through Recognition of Prior Learning or Course Credit transfer, with further study pathway options also available.
