Common Questions
The course fee for international students ranges from $27,775 to $29,870 AUD. Additionally, there are extra costs for uniforms, equipment, textbooks and materials ranging from $300 to $1,000 AUD per course.
This course has been designed specifically to help you meet the licensing requirements of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). However, you will also need to meet other requirements, including sea time hours and medical requirements, as set by AMSA under Marine Order 72 Engineer Officers.
The Engineer Class 1 (Motor) qualification requires 14 units in total: 13 core units plus one additional unit selected from Group A (the specialty unit being 'Demonstrate advanced knowledge of marine diesel engines and systems' MARL050).
Students will build practical experience in firefighting, survival techniques, life board practicals, and live electrical fault finding, in addition to theoretical coursework covering planning and scheduling operations, organising safe maintenance and repair procedures, and managing vessel administration.
TAFE NSW provides a range of support services including the TAFE NSW Disability Support Service, Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support, Careers, Counselling and Pathways Service, Smarthinking online tutor access, and LinkedIn Learning. Students also have access to an underground tunnel which is part of mining facilities to practise firefighting and emergency procedures.
