About This Course

This course is designed to prepare individuals for a range of Christian ministry roles such as pastor, deacon, lay preacher, catechist, religious education teacher, lay worker, youth ministry worker and evangelist. Work in these roles may also require commissioning from a recognised religious institution. It is also designed to equip employees in parachurch, community and Christian organisations with an understanding of the beliefs and values that guide Christian education, health, social services, childcare or aged care in order to work effectively in these sectors. Such workers are required to align their work with the vision, values and expected practices of the organisation and to operate within an ethical and moral framework. This course will provide participants with: advanced knowledge of core Christian beliefs and practices; skills to interpret, apply and teach Christian beliefs and practices; practical ministry, leadership or teaching skills; opportunities for personal ethical formation; and skills for work or further vocational training.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Be 18 years or over
Have a government-issued Unique Student Identifier (USI) number or be willing to obtain one
Submit a Letter of Endorsement from a current church leader or workplace
Be able to read and write English to a sufficient standard to work with the supplied course materials (equivalent to ACSF level 3)
Read and comply with PBC's policies and procedures
You may also need to provide a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) to participate in work placement

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Diploma of Ministry and Theology cost?

The total course fee is $9,000. Your first trimester fees must be paid in full prior to the commencement of the trimester. For following trimesters, you may pay your fees in fortnightly or monthly instalments depending on an arrangement with the College Business Manager. Payment can be made via bank transfer or credit card. Note that PBC's VET courses are not currently eligible for VET Student Loans/VET FEE-HELP.

What study modes and delivery options are available for this course?

The course is delivered face-to-face, online, and through work-based learning. Full-time students can complete the course in 12 months (three trimesters), while part-time students (domestic only) can complete it over 24 months (six trimesters). PBC provides a rolling intake, so enrolment may happen at the commencement of any trimester.

What are the pathways after completing the Diploma of Ministry and Theology?

Completing this course equips graduates with foundational knowledge and skills in Christian ministry, theology, and leadership. Further training pathways include the Advanced Diploma of Christian Ministry and Theology and the Bachelor of Ministry.

Is work-based learning required as part of this course?

Yes, work-based learning is an essential component of the vocational course. This may be a paid or voluntary position. If you do not have access to a work-based learning opportunity, you can apply to one of PBC's industry partners. Work-based learning allows you to upskill while you work, develop new skills in your day-to-day role, grow professionally, and gain qualifications as part of your job.

Can I receive credit for prior study or work experience?

Yes. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) recognises the skills and knowledge you've collected through work and life experiences and analyses them against course requirements. You must provide evidence of your competency to determine if you meet the required standards for credits towards the qualification. PBC also recognises Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and Statements of Attainment from other providers, and Direct Credit Transfer (DCT) is given for units successfully completed with another nationally recognised provider. To apply, complete an 'Application for Recognition of Prior Learning' form, collect certified copies of academic transcripts and supporting documents, and submit them to PBC's administration office by the specified deadline.
