Common Questions
Domestic applicants need to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Assessment (LLND), pass a dental-based assessment, and hold a Certificate III or higher in Dental Assisting, or have completed SACE or an equivalent qualification.
Fees vary depending on the units you enrol into. Domestic fees per semester are Concession $13,781, Subsidised $16,594, or Full Fee $63,469. International students pay AUD$78,525 in total across 4 semesters (around AUD$39,263 per year).
The course runs for 2 years and is delivered in a blended format at the Gilles Plains campus, combining scheduled on-campus clinical and classroom sessions with flexible online learning. It can be studied full-time or part-time.
Graduates can apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to register and practise as a Dental Hygienist in private or government dental settings. The course is approved by the Australian Dental Council (ADC) and meets ADC professional competencies for a newly qualified dental hygienist.
The qualification comprises 34 core units in total — 9 nationally recognised units of competency and 25 enterprise units — covering skills such as periodontal and gingival treatment, dental radiography, pain and anxiety management, and care for children, elderly patients and those with special needs.
