Associate Degree in Early Years Education (Exit Only)

The Associate Degree in Early Years Education is an Exit program only. Applicants apply to 1926 Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and exit with the Associate Degree award on successful completion of 160 credit points. Offered as an Advanced Diploma/Assoc Degree qualification of 160 credit points, it is normally completed in 2 years full-time and 4 years part-time. Students do not apply for this award directly: admission is to the parent program, and the qualification is conferred on those who leave that program early having completed the required credit points. It is administered within Western Sydney University's Education academic area. Subjects include Critical Literacies, Pedagogy and Praxis in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education, Creative Arts for Early Learning, Contemporary Childhoods and Science and Engineering in Early Childhood. Graduates are expected to be able to communicate with children, families, colleagues and communities using a range of practices to build meaningful relationships; discuss the place of leadership theories, ethics, relevant legislation, policies and processes and their application in early childhood settings; and use evidence-based approaches to enhance ways of working with families and children from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
