About This Course

Designed in response to rapid technological advancement and industry demand, this AQF Level 6 Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, prepares graduates with practical and theoretical expertise in power systems, automation, renewable energy, and smart infrastructure. The Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering is a two-year AQF Level 6 qualification designed to provide a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills enriched by Work Integrated Learning. Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Secondary Education Route: Completion of Year 12 (Australian Senior Certificate of Education or equivalent) with a pass (or satisfactory achievement) in a relevant mathematics subject (e.g., General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Mathematics), completed within the last 10 years.
Other Qualifications: Completion of a relevant engineering AQF Certificate III or above, or an overseas qualification equivalent to an AQF Cert III or above, in a relevant engineering discipline, completed within the last 10 years.
Mature Age / Alternative Pathway Route: Applicants who have not completed recent secondary education or an AQF Cert III qualification or above may still be considered if they can demonstrate equivalent numeracy and communication skills through one or more of the following:
- Completion of bridging courses
- Performance in a diagnostic assessment, e.g., mathematics diagnostic test
- Relevant prior work experience in engineering related roles (minimum 3 years) completed within the last 10 years
English Language Proficiency: Entry to this course requires demonstration of English language proficiency at the level of an IELTS overall score of at least 6.0 (with no individual band score less than 5.5). Methods of satisfying this requirement include (but are not limited to):
- An Australian Senior Certificate of Education or equivalent
- A specified level of achievement in a recognized English language test, such as IELTS (or equivalent)
- Satisfactory completion of another tertiary course offered in English
- Work history in an organization where English is the language of communication
NOTE: All CRICOS applicants from non-English speaking countries (as determined by the Australian Department of Home Affairs) are required to provide results from a recognized language test such as IELTS or equivalent.

EIT's Associate Degree requires students to undertake 240 hours of paid or unpaid professional work-integrated learning. This can incorporate paid or unpaid internships, site visits, contributing to industry projects, and networking activities. If you already have some work experience in the relevant engineering field, you may apply to have credit granted by completing the associated recognition of prior learning form.

Is there a pathway to a bachelor's degree after completing this Associate Degree?

Yes, there is a clear articulation pathway into the Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering) for graduates of this program.

How long do I have to complete the Associate Degree if I cannot finish within two years?

The Associate Degree takes 2 years to complete full-time, and longer for those studying part-time. After enrolment, the maximum time allowed to complete all units is 5 years.
