About This Course

Gain the skills you need to excel in screen and media, and learn about storytelling, pre- and post-production, and more alongside industry. This qualification will teach you valuable screen industry skills and knowledge in the key areas of concept development, storytelling, pre-production, production and post-production for single and multi-camera productions. Throughout the curriculum, there is a strong emphasis on industry knowledge, collaboration, team building, creative application and professionalism.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

You must have successfully completed the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) (or equivalent qualification).
VCE units 3 and 4 prerequisite: a study score of at least 20 in English other than EAL; or a study score of at least 23 in English as an Additional Language (EAL), or equivalent studies.
A selection task is required for all applicants applying for Semester 1; applicants must submit the selection task by the published deadline.
Semester 2 applications are only open to current or previous RMIT pathway students who have successfully completed, or are due to complete, at least one of the following RMIT qualifications: C5412 Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation) or C5421 Diploma of Screen and Media.
Applicants with VET study: must have successfully completed an Australian Certificate IV or above (or equivalent). Successful completion of the Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation) or Diploma of Screen and Media guarantees entry.
Applicants with Higher Education study: must have successfully completed at least two courses (subjects) in an Australian bachelor degree or four courses (subjects) in an Australian associate degree, or overseas equivalent.
Applicants with Work and Life Experience: must have completed VCE (or equivalent) and meet prerequisites; work and life experience does not provide additional consideration.
Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) multiple choice with a minimum overall score of 150 may satisfy academic requirements for eligible applicants (19 years or older, not enrolled in secondary studies for at least two years).
Entry to this program is competitive; applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on the assessment of their selection task.

What will I learn in the Associate Degree in Screen and Media Production?

You will develop skills in concept development, storytelling, pre-production, production and post-production for single and multi-camera productions. In Year 1, you'll build foundational technical skills using industry-standard cameras and video editing software. In Year 2, you'll explore advanced editing techniques and develop screen and media projects as part of a team, culminating in a Major Production Capstone in the final semester.

What further study options are available after completing this associate degree?

Graduates of the Associate Degree in Screen and Media Production are guaranteed entry into the Bachelor of Communication (Media) and the Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT University. Credit may apply, which will reduce the total duration of the destination course.

How much does the course cost for international students?

For international students, the annual tuition fee is AU$36,480 (2026 annual figure). In addition, there is a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) of up to AU$373 for 2026, plus potential costs for field trips, textbooks and equipment.

What facilities and equipment will I have access to during the program?

Students have access to a range of professional equipment and facilities, including industry-standard cameras and video editing software. Learning takes place in computer labs, on location and in studio-based environments. You are actively encouraged to develop and produce innovative screen content to industry standard using these resources.
