Associate Degree in Social Science (exit only)

The Associate Degree in Social Science is an early exit point from the Bachelor of Social Science or Bachelor of Criminal and Community Justice/ Bachelor of Social Work or Bachelor of Social Work. Qualification for this award requires the successful completion of 160 credit points of Social Science subjects. Offered as an Advanced Diploma/Assoc Degree qualification of 160 credit points, it is normally completed in 2 years full-time and 4 years part-time. Students do not apply for this award directly: admission is to the parent program, and the qualification is conferred on those who leave that program early having completed the required credit points. It is administered within Western Sydney University's Social Sciences academic area. Subjects include Sociology, Major, Child and Community, Major, Disability Studies, Major, Anthropology, Major and Criminology and Criminal Justice, Major. Graduates are expected to be able to explain the significance that social dimensions like gender, ethnicity, nationality and sexuality have for individuals and groups in contemporary society; and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and ways of knowing and demonstrate an appreciation of the interface between Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures in Australia.
