Associate Degree in Youth Studies (exit only)

The Associate Degree in Youth Studies is an early exit point from the Bachelor of Youth Work. As detailed below, qualification for this award requires the successful completion of 160 credit points made up of the first- and second-year sequence in the Bachelor of Youth Work. Offered as an Advanced Diploma/Assoc Degree qualification of 160 credit points, it is normally completed in 2 years full-time and 4 years part-time. Students do not apply for this award directly: admission is to the parent program, and the qualification is conferred on those who leave that program early having completed the required credit points. It is administered within Western Sydney University's Social Sciences academic area. Subjects include Ethics in the Social Sciences, Inclusive Youth Work Practice for a Diverse World, Digital Identities, Working with Cultural Differences and Practicum 1: Foundations in Youth Work Practice. Graduates are expected to be able to draw on diverse social, cultural and political perspectives to analyse concepts, theories and policies related to youth and youth work as a basis for professional practice; and reflect on the forces that form young people's life-worlds, experiences, and aspirations to support enabling conditions and contribute to effective intervention models for working with young people.
