Associate Degree of Theology

The Associate Degree of Theology is an undergraduate award in theology at Level 6 of the Australian Qualifications Framework. It consists of 192 credit points, which normally takes two years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent, with up to six years allowed to complete the course part-time.

The course introduces students to the sources and content of the Christian story and message, and provides training which emphasises the application and articulation of that story and message in the contemporary world. It concentrates on the disciplines by which knowledge of God is developed and articulated — Bible & Languages (LA, OT, NT, BB) and Christian Thought & History (TH, CH, PE) — and provides a grounding for ministry by establishing a foundation in theological knowledge and reflection.

The 192 credit points include a substantial common core: 24cps of Old Testament Introduction, 24cps of New Testament Introduction, 24cps in Christian Thought (with at least 12cps CH and 12cps TH/PE), and 24cps of Old and New Testament set books. A further 48cps is taken in the primary course discipline across LA/BB/NT/OT/CH/TH/PE, including at least 24cps at Level 6 or above, with at least 48cps of electives from any unit field. Through those electives students can follow study tracks in Bible & Languages and Christian Thought & History, or develop practical ministry skills in EM, PC and DE.

Units are completed at Level 5 and above, with no more than 144cps at Level 5 and at least 48cps at Level 6 or above. The Associate Degree articulates to the Bachelor of Theology and carries exit points to the Advanced Diploma of Theology, the Diploma of Theology and the Undergraduate Certificate of Theology.
