About This Course

Good accountants understand numbers. Great accountants understand how to think creatively and find solutions. The Bachelor of Accounting holds triple accreditation with CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CAANZ), and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). Depending on your majors, you’ll also be eligible to become a member of the Financial Planning Association or register with the Tax Practitioners Board as a tax agent. The Bachelor of Accounting will provide you with an in-depth knowledge of accounting, supported by knowledge of associated disciplines of law, economics, finance and statistics. This degree is unique in that it can provide you with a qualification in accounting as well financial planning and taxation. Through your degree you will engage critically with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through your evaluation of economic, social, and environmental enterprise and professional behaviour and your consideration of responsible business practice. This degree meets the accreditation requirements of CPA Australia (CPA), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) for entry into their respective programs. Completion of this degree will allow you to claim a number of exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in obtaining the CIMA professional qualification. On successful completion of the Financial Planning and Taxation specialisation in this degree you will have met the eligibility requirements of the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) to become a Financial Planner AFP and you will be prepared for entry into the Certified Financial Planner CFP Certification.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Secondary Education: Year 12 HSC (or equivalent); or completed Diploma in Business at Western Sydney University, The College; or completed relevant TAFE award.
Assumed Knowledge: Mathematics and any two units of English. Students unable to demonstrate sufficient levels of achievement in mathematics will be required to use one of the elective subjects to increase their mathematical aptitude. This will not lengthen the period of study.

What are the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Accounting / Bachelor of Laws (Honours)?

To be admitted, students must meet all of the following criteria: completion of at least 160 credit points of law study (or 140 credit points if two Summer subjects are undertaken); demonstration of the likelihood of graduating with an Honours Weighted Average Mark (HWAM) of at least 70 at the time of graduation, or an Admission Average Mark (AAM) of at least 70 at the time of admission; demonstration of satisfactory academic writing skills; and availability of a principal supervisor.
