Common Questions
The one-year professional placement takes place in Year 3 of the degree and can be completed as a single long internship, multiple shorter placements, or a combination of both. It provides mentorship, professional skills development, and valuable networking opportunities. You can begin the placement once your foundation and core subjects are successfully completed, potentially starting from Year 3 (96 credit points over 2 semesters). The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team supports you in researching, applying for, and securing tailored internships aligned with your career goals across diverse industries, start-ups, and not-for-profit organisations.
Yes. The Bachelor of Accounting Professional Practice is accredited by both CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ). The program satisfies the academic requirements for direct entry into the CPA Australia program, and graduates are eligible for Associate membership and to enrol in the CPA program. For CAANZ, the program satisfies the academic requirements for entry into the CA program, with graduates eligible for Provisional membership and having met the academic requirements for entry to the CA program.
This course is available as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), meaning tuition fees are subsidised by the Australian Government. For 2026, subjects in Accounting fall under the Law, Accounting, Administration, Economics, Commerce, Communications, Society and Culture band, with a maximum annual student contribution amount of AU$17,399 per standard full-time year (or AU$2,174 per standard 12 credit point course). The annual student services and amenities fee (SSAF) is a maximum of AU$373 for 2026. Eligible students may defer payment via HECS-HELP and SA-HELP loan schemes.
Two notable scholarships are available specifically for students in this degree. The Liberty First Nations Scholarship is for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in an undergraduate business, accounting or commerce degree, worth up to AU$50,000. The David Thomson Scholarship for Accounting, supported by Pitcher Partners, is for commencing Bachelor of Accounting students from a rural or regional area and is also worth up to AU$50,000. RMIT also awards more than 2,000 scholarships each year to recognise academic achievement and assist students from a variety of backgrounds.
In Year 1, students complete introductory business foundation subjects such as Understanding the Business Environment and Integrated Perspectives on Business Problems. In Year 2, students deepen accounting knowledge in areas like accounting data analytics, company and finance law, cost analysis, and managerial advisory finance, while also preparing for professional practice through subjects like Developing Professionally and Work, Health, Safety, and Wellbeing. Year 3 is dedicated to the one-year professional placement in industry. In Year 4, students focus on specialised accounting and finance subjects including financial accountability and reporting, strategic accounting and leadership, and taxation, culminating in a capstone subject, plus 2 elective subjects.
