Upon gradutating from the accounting and law degree, you may be interested in pursuing a traditional legal career, or you may pursue roles in commercial law, including within legal firms, corporate counsel roles and government. In Year 1, you build a foundational understanding in accounting, business and law, covering the role of business in society, economics and analysis, and introduction to torts and contract law. In Year 2, you explore criminal law and procedure, data analytics and visualisation, and the intersection of law, business, and human rights. In Year 3, you advance into equity and property law, ethics surrounding technology, and critical accounting perspectives. In Year 4, you study dispute resolution, auditing, taxation, work with industry on a real-world justice innovation, and choose up to two elective subjects from the Approved Law Options list. In Year 5, you finalise studies in trusts, constitutional law, develop a business portfolio, and choose up to three electives from the Approved Law Options list to specialise in your chosen area of law.
As part of your learning in the Bachelor of Accounting / Bachelor of Laws double degree you may participate in discussions, tutorials, class presentations, role plays, case studies, responses to briefs, independent and group research, and problem solving. In your legal studies, you will also undertake moots (mock courts), in which you may play the role of a solicitor, barrister, expert witness, or negotiator, helping develop capabilities in legal writing and drafting, research, reasoning, judgment and strategy, and advocacy and negotiation communications. Assessment may take the form of research or problem-based assignments and projects, oral or written exams, presentations, and in-class assessments.
In 2026, the annual student contribution amount (tuition fee) for domestic students in a standard year of full-time study is between AU$4,738 to AU$17,399 (Commonwealth Supported Places). There is also a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) of up to AU$373 maximum for 2026, plus other items related to your program including field trips, textbooks and equipment. These amounts are based on a standard year of full-time study (96 credit points) and are adjusted on an annual basis.
