The Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours)/Bachelor of Social Science is a five-year full-time double degree requiring a minimum of 240 units of credit (UOC). This consists of 144 UOC from Advanced Science (Honours) — including two core research skills courses, one Science major, an optional minor, one Science Honours specialisation, and Science elective courses if required — plus 96 UOC from Social Sciences, including one Social Sciences major, 12 UOC of Level 1 courses, 18 UOC of Level 2 courses, and 18 UOC of Level 3 courses.
In the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours), students can choose from 25 majors including Advanced Physical Oceanography, Advanced Physics, Anatomy, Bioinformatics, Biology & Biodiversity, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Climate Systems Science, Earth Science, Ecology and Conservation, Genetics, Geography, Immunology, Marine and Coastal Science, Materials Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychology, and Statistics. In the Bachelor of Social Sciences, students choose from majors including Economics, Environmental Humanities, Geographical Studies, Global Development, Human Resource Management, Indigenous Studies, Innovation Strategy and Entrepreneurship, International Business, International Studies, Marketing, Media Culture & Technology, Politics and International Relations, and Sociology.
SciConnect is an innovative online system integrated across the whole science degree at UNSW. It helps students settle into university, track their professional development, and showcase their skills to future employers. The platform focuses on four key areas: orientation, co-curricular opportunities and communities, career development, and a graduate portfolio. SciConnect enables students to shape their university experience and supports them in showcasing their talents to potential employers with a comprehensive impression of who they are, beyond their academic transcript.
For domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $13,000, with an indicative full fee to complete the degree of $67,500. For international students, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $60,500, with an indicative full fee to complete the degree of $335,500. These fees are for tuition only and are subject to annual review; actual fees depend on courses selected and enrolment year.
Students in this program can access Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and Research Integrated Learning (RIL) opportunities to bridge the gap between study and employment. These experiences allow students to explore different career paths and apply their skills professionally while being guided by world-leading academics. Additionally, the Honours year includes a supervised research project involving original scientific investigations and analyses, developing critical and integrative thinking skills.
