About This Course

Interior designers offer creative, proactive and innovative design solutions. In this course you will develop a solid foundation in critical design thinking and theory relating to human occupation, and explore how the human experience is central to interior architecture. You will learn key employability skills including communication, creative problem-solving and collaborative work practice. You'll also learn to consider environmental impact and sustainability by anticipating various scenarios and predicting the consequences of current actions.

Must meet any course-specific requirements
No essential or desirable prerequisite subjects
English language requirement: IELTS Academic – Overall band score 6.5 (Writing 6, Speaking 6, Reading 6, Listening 6)
May also apply via: Portfolio entry, StepUp to Curtin (equity ATAR adjustment factors)
University/higher education applicants: must meet Curtin or higher education course switcher criteria
VET/TAFE applicants: AQF Certificate IV (with separate evidence of English language proficiency), AQF Diploma, or AQF Advanced Diploma
Work and life experience applicants: Written English and either Multiple Choice Verbal or Quantitative, or Portfolio entry
Indigenous applicants aged 17 or older may be eligible for an Indigenous enabling course

Is this degree professionally accredited?

Yes. The Bachelor of Applied Science (Interior Architecture) (Honours) is recognised by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers, and students and graduates are eligible for membership of the Design Institute of Australia.

What work experience is required to graduate?

Before graduating, students must have completed at least 80 hours of relevant work experience as part of the course's work-integrated learning requirements.

Can I exit the course early without completing the full four years?

Yes. You have the option to exit the course after three years, graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Interior Design), rather than completing the full four-year Honours program.

What specialisations are available within this course?

As part of the course, students can choose from specialisations including Animation and Game Design, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, Design Thinking and Visual Communication, Digital Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Principles of Planning, and Urban Design and Planning.

What are the indicative first-year fees for domestic students?

The 2026 domestic indicative Commonwealth-supported first-year fee is $9,600, based on a first-year full-time study load of 200 credit points. Fees will vary depending on the units chosen and do not include administrative, incidental fees, or textbook costs.
