Bachelor of Art Theory (Honours)

To apply, you must first determine your eligibility, find a supervisor with compatible research interests, complete a pre-admission interview, develop a Research Plan, and prepare all supporting documentation. Applications are lodged via UNSW Apply Online. Only full applications with all required documents will be taken to the next stage.

UNSW HDR programs operate on a four-term academic calendar. For 2026, term start dates are 15 December 2025 (Summer Term), 16 February 2026 (Term 1), 1 June 2026 (Term 2), and 14 September 2026 (Term 3). New candidates may enrol up to one month before the term start date but cannot enrol after the census date has passed.

All applicants, whether domestic or international, must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum UNSW English Language Requirements. You can demonstrate this through English Language Tests and University English Courses, prior study in the medium of English, or other qualifications. If you are applying for a scholarship, you must demonstrate that you meet these requirements before the scholarship deadline.

Yes, UNSW has three scholarship application rounds per year for international applicants. If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, indicate this on the application form and select the scholarship round for your preferred term start date. Scholarship recipients must accept or defer their unconditional offer within 2 weeks of receiving it. You can search for available scholarships on the UNSW website.

After submitting your application, it will take around a week to come through Apply Online to the student system, and longer during high peak periods. You will receive an email confirmation with a UNSW Student ID. You can track your application in your UNSW Apply Online account and upload any missing documents. If you have applied for admission only (alternative funding), the outcome typically takes 6–8 weeks to process. If you receive a conditional offer, you must provide the remaining required documents before a full unconditional offer is issued.
