Common Questions
The JCU Bachelor of Arts offers 11 majors to choose from: Anthropology, Archaeology, Criminology, English, History, Human Geography, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Politics and International Relations, Psychology Studies, and more. Not all majors are available at every campus, and the handbook provides detail about the subjects you can study within each major.
JCU Flex means you're free to decide, week to week, how you learn in each subject. Regardless of whether you're enrolled as an internal (on-campus) or external (online) student, you have the flexibility to engage face-to-face on campus, online, or study independently — and you can choose a mix of the three that suits you.
The minimum adjusted ATAR required for entry is 59. English (Units 3/4, C) is required. Applicants with an ATAR of 73 and above are guaranteed entry into most JCU courses but need to meet course subject prerequisites, while applicants with an ATAR of 90 and above are guaranteed entry with all subject prerequisites waived. The Guaranteed Admissions Plan is open to all domestic and international applicants completing Year 12 in Australia.
The Bachelor of Arts is available at JCU's Townsville and Cairns campuses, as well as online. Students can commence in January, May, or September at all three locations.
The estimated annual Commonwealth Supported Fee for a full-time study load is $11,667+. Please note this estimate is variable and subject to fluctuation depending on choice of elective subjects. Students may be able to defer their fees with HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP if eligible. Fees displayed are for 2026 and are subject to change in following years.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
