About This Course

Studying arts and communication and media will equip you with critical and creative thinking while developing effective communication and problem-solving skills, all of which are required for high achievement in a range of media or related careers. The Bachelor of Arts will equip you for today's rapidly changing world. You will develop skills and capabilities necessary to understand how the world has come to be the way it is today. Throughout the Bachelor of Communication and Media you will acquire a strong foundation in the national and international communication and media industry. With a focus on preparing you for global careers, this degree places an emphasis on high-level skills in media production, communication research and independent project work. A double degree at UOW provides a world-class qualification in less time and at less cost than studying the two degrees separately. Having a double degree will give you a competitive advantage in a crowded job market. You must select at least one major from Bachelor of Arts and at least one major from Bachelor of Communication and Media.

Minimum Selection Rank of 70 (ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any eligible adjustments) for guaranteed entry
Assumed Knowledge: any two units of English
Recommended Studies: English Advanced
Recent secondary education qualifications considered include: Australian ATAR, International Baccalaureate (IBAS), GCE A-Levels, New Zealand NCEA Level 3, or overseas senior secondary qualifications comparable to Australian qualifications
Students may be admitted via Early Admission (applications usually June–August each year)
Higher Education applicants must have completed at least half a year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at Bachelor's degree level or higher
Work and life experience is generally not considered for admission
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants may apply through UOW's Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP)
Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications must provide academic records; course must be at least one-sixth complete; non-English documents must include an official English translation
If English is not your first language, you must meet the University's English Language Requirements; accepted tests include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET (for specific health-related courses)
Pathway options available through UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) for those who do not meet academic requirements

What is the minimum ATAR required to get into the Bachelor of Arts – Bachelor of Communication and Media at UOW?

The course starts in both Autumn and Spring sessions. For Autumn 2026, the session starts on 2 March 2026, with domestic UAC Early Bird applications due 30 September 2025 and direct domestic applications due 31 December 2025. For Spring 2026, the session starts on 27 July 2026, with domestic direct applications due 31 May 2026. An Autumn 2027 intake is also available, starting 1 March 2027.

Yes, Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, Australian government funding will contribute towards tuition fees, with the remaining proportion known as a student contribution, which will depend on when you begin study (enrolment year) and study area.
