Common Questions
You can specialise in one of three creative streams: Animation & Moving Image (including sub-specialisations in animation, moving image, visual effects, sound, and 3D visualisation), Music (with pathways in music, creative practice, music pedagogy, or sonic arts), or Visual Arts (choosing two studio disciplines from drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and moving image). Your choice of specialisation determines which teaching subjects you will be accredited to teach in secondary schools.
You will complete up to 80 days of supervised professional placement across at least two NSW secondary schools in your final two years. The first placement is a one-day intensive orientation followed by a four-week supervised work placement, and the second placement goes for nine weeks with a gradual shift towards more autonomy, responsibility and accountability. Before starting placements, you must obtain a Working with Children Check, complete mandatory anaphylaxis training, and pass two NESA LANTITE tests.
Upon graduation, you will be NESA-accredited to teach in secondary schools. Depending on your fine arts specialisation and education method courses, you can qualify to teach visual arts, music, or graphics and multimedia technology. It is also possible to gain accreditation in two teaching subjects — for example, visual arts and graphics and multimedia technology — by choosing an appropriate combination of fine arts studio disciplines and education method courses.
Yes. The Bachelor of Fine Arts / Education (Secondary) is accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as an initial teaching qualification for both government and non-government secondary schools throughout Australia, and is widely accepted as a teaching qualification internationally.
The program consists of 192 Units of Credit (UOC) across 31 individual courses, typically completed over four years of full-time study at eight courses per year. It is structured as a double degree: a Bachelor of Fine Arts (96 UOC, comprising a fine arts specialisation) and a Bachelor of Education Secondary (96 UOC, comprising education core courses of 66 UOC, prescribed education method electives of 24 UOC, and a prescribed education elective of 6 UOC). Note that your second teaching internship counts as two courses in one, which is why the total is 31 courses rather than the typical 32 for a double degree.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
