Common Questions
To complete the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws, you must pass 40 credit points. This includes DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin (0-credit-point compulsory unit) in your first study period, 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Arts (including 1 major of 8 credit points and a minimum of 4 credit points of Faculty of Arts units at level 3), and 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Laws (including 18 credit points of core units, 1 credit point of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or practical course elective unit, and 5 credit points of course elective units).
The course is available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waterfront (Geelong), and Online. Students and applicants to the Geelong Waterfront Campus should note that travel between campuses will be required to complete this combined degree — the Bachelor of Laws degree will be taught at Waterfront campus and the Bachelor of Arts degree will be taught at the Waurn Ponds Campus.
Students must complete one Bachelor of Arts major sequence chosen from a wide range of options including animation, anthropology, arabic, chinese, criminology, design thinking, digital cultures, education, english (children's literature, creative writing, or literature), film and television studies, gender and sexuality studies, history, indigenous studies, indonesian, international relations, media and communication, media studies, middle east studies, performing arts, philosophy, politics and policy studies, public relations studies, religious studies, social media, sociology, spanish, sport and society, sport journalism, strategic advertising, UX design, visual arts and photography, visual communication design, and web design.
Students must complete one of the following experiential/practice units as one of their Law Elective units: Legal Professional Practice (MLL338), Community Legal Internship (MLL351), Deakin Law Clinic (MLL420), or Mooting and Advocacy (MLL460). In the law stream, students can work on real cases alongside established legal professionals at the Deakin Law Clinic.
The lowest selection rank (ATAR) varies by campus: 90.10 at Burwood (Melbourne) with a Deakin Guaranteed ATAR of 80, 85.25 at Waterfront (Geelong) with a Deakin Guaranteed ATAR of 75, and unpublished (NP) for Online with a Deakin Guaranteed ATAR of 75. The course is available to commence in Trimester 1 (March) at Burwood, Waterfront, and Online, and in Trimester 2 (July) at Burwood, Waterfront, and Online. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close 21 June 2026.
