You can choose one major from the arts disciplines and one from the science disciplines. Arts majors include Anthropology, Archaeology, Criminology, English, History, Human Geography, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Politics and International Relations, Psychology Studies, and Sociology. Science majors include Aquaculture, Chemistry, Data Science, Environmental Earth Science, Geology, Marine Biology, Mathematics, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Zoology and Ecology.
The degree takes 4 years to complete as a full-time student, or 8 years if studying part-time, making it flexible for students who also have employment or family commitments.
The minimum ATAR for entry is 66.5. Recommended knowledge includes English (Units 3/4, C), Mathematical Methods (Units 3/4, C), and Chemistry, General Maths or Mathematical Methods — with Mathematical Methods specifically recommended for majors in Maths, Physics, and Data Science. Applicants with an ATAR of 73 or above are guaranteed entry if prerequisites are met, and those with an ATAR of 90 or above are guaranteed entry with all subject prerequisites waived.
Throughout your degree, you will have the opportunity to undertake real-world research in unrivalled locations, including the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. You will also have access to state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities like JCU's The Science Place, and can participate in field trips and research in the Bachelor of Science component as well as practical work placements in the Bachelor of Arts component.
The estimated annual Commonwealth Supported Fee for a full-time study load is $11,650+. Please note this estimate is variable and subject to fluctuation depending on choice of elective subjects, and there is also a Student Services and Amenities fee. Fee deferral and scholarships are available if eligible. Fees displayed are for 2026 and are subject to change in following years.
