Common Questions
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) consists of 50% coursework and 50% research work. The research component takes the form of a research thesis of 15,000 words (approximately 15,000 to 18,000 words) completed under the supervision of an academic employed in the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. It normally involves one additional year of study following the successful completion of a three-year undergraduate degree.
To qualify for entry, students must have completed a bachelor's degree with an average of at least 75% across the major (or majors) in which the Honours degree will be undertaken, with the additional requirement of a Distinction in two of the 300-level subjects required by the major. Applicants are also required to complete a 500-word outline of the proposed thesis topic.
The available majors include Creative Writing, English Literatures, History, Indigenous Studies, Philosophy, Politics, and Sociology.
The course is offered in Autumn 2026 (starting 2 March 2026) and Spring 2026. For Autumn 2026, application deadlines are: Domestic (UAC Early Bird) 30 September 2025, International 9 December 2025, Domestic (direct) 31 December 2025, and Domestic (UAC final round) 29 January 2026. For Spring 2026, deadlines are: International 5 May 2026, Domestic (direct) 31 May 2026, and Domestic (UAC final round) 2 July 2026.
Studying Honours will teach you research skills, navigation skills and how to use information systems (archives, the library, databases and electronic research networks), provide an opportunity to articulate complex ideas in both verbal and written format, provide the experience of working closely with a supervisor on a project and preparing a major project to meet a deadline, and give you experience in devising, researching and delivering an individual topic of study in an extended thesis of approximately 15,000 to 18,000 words.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
