About This Course

In any dialogue between speakers of different languages, interpreters and translators are the essential link for effective communication. They are the highly prized frontline of international business and tourism, international diplomacy, and crosscultural community, health and legal work. The languages offered at Western Sydney University are Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Spanish. You can also complete minor studies in advanced language, cultural studies and linguistics. The Bachelor of Arts (Interpreting and Translation) degree provides you with the practical training and theoretical background to work as a professional interpreter and/or translator in a variety of areas. Consisting of a core field of study in interpreting and translation as well as a major in language, linguistics and cultural studies, You will be equipped with the skills to thrive in a global career such as international business and tourism, international diplomacy or cross cultural-community, health and legal work. You will also have the opportunity to complete a period of professional practical experience and sit for capstone examinations which will qualify you to seek Certification by the National Accreditation Authority for Translation and Interpreters [NAATI]. Students in 1519 Bachelor of Arts (Interpreting and Translation) may qualify for the alternate exit program 1813 Bachelor of Arts (Interpreting and Translation Studies). This program is designed to provide the training and theoretical background to equip you to work as a professional interpreter and translator.
