Common Questions
Yes, before submitting a course application you will need to secure an academic supervisor. You may need to meet with your proposed supervisor to see if they are able to supervise your honours program and discuss your proposed research topic, and you should provide evidence of their support with your application.
The standard closing dates are Semester 1 - 15 January of the commencing year, and Semester 2 - 25 June of the commencing year. The University strongly encourages applicants to apply as early as possible, as offers are made on a rolling basis and places are limited. Separate scholarship deadlines also apply.
You will complete two seminar units of study, selected from the Bachelor of Languages (Honours) table, giving you the knowledge and skills required to undertake research in your chosen language area, and produce a research thesis under the guidance of a dedicated supervisor.
The Bachelor of Languages (Honours) has two intake periods: Semester 1 starting in February and Semester 2 starting in August.
You need to choose a research topic for your honours study that is an area of interest to you and considered of academic importance to the relevant faculty. Most disciplines have an honours coordinator to assist with preparing your research topic proposal, and in some cases may provide a list of available projects. It is best to submit your research topic proposal as early as possible, and for stand-alone programs this should be before the end of your final semester.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
