In the third year of your degree, you will undertake approximately 60-80 hours of internship activities at music industry organisations. Past students have been placed at commercial record labels including Universal Music Australia, Warner Music Australia, and Sony; indie labels Chapter Music and Milk! Records; touring organisations such as Frontier; radio stations such as PBS FM; and at key live music venues/companies such as The Tote, the Corner Hotel, Laundry Bar, Opera Australia, and the Melbourne Theatre Company. Other opportunities have included interning at recording studios, music festivals, management and promotion companies. Many interns have progressed into paid roles in these organisations.
You will complete a Music Industry major as your main coursework, covering people and practices in the music industry, performance and production techniques, historical and contemporary styles and genres of music, global perspectives, and career pathways. You will also choose a minor specialisation from one of the following streams: Approaches to Popular Culture; Asian Media and Culture; Cinema Studies; Contemporary Politics & Communication; or Literary Studies. Additionally, you can choose from a wide range of school electives (such as podcasting, advertising media, making music videos, or learning to DJ) as well as electives from across the university.
Students have access to high-end facilities including an Ableton Live music production studio where you can get creative with music production, and a DJ studio where you can hone your skills. These studios support hands-on learning alongside lectures, seminars, tutorials, work integrated learning, and problem-solving workshops.
You will be taught by staff who have many years of industry and research experience. Ongoing lecturing staff hold relevant PhD qualifications and have first-hand knowledge of music performance, international touring, music journalism, event coordination and/or the music business. In addition, guest teachers from across the spectrum of cultural organisations, arts bodies, and music businesses are invited to enable students to experience the breadth and depth of employment possibilities in the music industry.
Yes, the Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry) degree provides perspectives on global music industries and global music cultures via the curriculum. As a student, you can expand on this knowledge through RMIT's exchange opportunities with partner universities from across the world — you can undertake global work, do a semester abroad, or choose an overseas study experience. RMIT offers a range of opportunities to study abroad through overseas work, exchange and study experiences with over 165 partner universities worldwide.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
