To be admitted to the Honours program, students must meet all of the following criteria: completion of at least 160 credit points of law study (or 140 credit points if two Summer subjects are undertaken); demonstration of the likelihood of graduating with an Honours Weighted Average Mark (HWAM) of at least 70 at the time of graduation, or an Admission Average Mark (AAM) of at least 70 at the time of admission; demonstration of satisfactory academic writing skills; and availability of a principal supervisor.
You will learn professional legal skills including the ability to analyse legal material, understand fundamental legal principles, understand the relationship between law and society, and gain general analytical skills for critical thinking and problem solving. Special emphasis is placed on the development of skills in advocacy, negotiation, legal drafting and legal research. You may also have the opportunity to take part in work experience such as working at the NSW Attorney General's in legal aid, working in cooperative Summer Research Programs with industry, and in the Australian Taxation Office advisory support scheme.
The Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) / Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program is offered at Parramatta South Campus and Campbelltown Campus.
Yes. Students enrolling in subjects such as LAWS 4017 Access to Justice Clinic, LAWS 3074 Judicial Internship, LAWS 3077 Legal Internship, LAWS 4012 First Nations Peoples' Access to Justice Clinic, LAWS 3080 Street Law Clinic, and JUST 3011 Issues in the Criminal Justice System may need to have a National Police Certificate and consent or prohibited employment declarations. Additionally, subjects including LAWS 3024 Foundations of Chinese Law, LAWS 3025 Law, Culture and Entrepreneurial Innovation in India, and LAWS 3078 Legal, Economic and Social Transformation in Taiwan require a visa for the relevant country and the ability to travel at specified times.
