Common Questions
To be admitted to this program, students must have completed at least 160 credit points of law study (or 140 credit points if two Summer subjects are undertaken), demonstrate the likelihood of graduating with an Honours Weighted Average Mark (HWAM) of at least 70 or an Admission Average Mark (AAM) of at least 70 at the time of admission, demonstrate satisfactory academic writing skills, and have an available principal supervisor.
The Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Laws (Honours) takes 5 years to complete on a full-time basis. A part-time option is also available, though it is not available to international students on a Student Visa.
You will learn professional legal skills including the ability to analyse legal material, understand fundamental legal principles, understand the relationship between law and society, and gain general analytical skills for critical thinking and problem solving. Special emphasis is placed on the development of skills in advocacy, negotiation, legal drafting and legal research. You may also have the opportunity to take part in work experience such as working at the NSW Attorney General's in legal aid, working in cooperative Summer Research Programs with industry, and in the Australian Taxation Office advisory support scheme.
Graduates can pursue careers in courts and legal advice, communication and media industries, education, psychology and counselling, cultural, political and social policy analysis, writing and publishing, and as a legal practitioner.
The Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is offered at Parramatta South and Campbelltown campuses of Western Sydney University. The next start date is 01 March 2027.
