Bachelor of Aviation

The Bachelor of Aviation, majoring in Management (BAVIA) is a three-year, on-campus degree delivered at Mawson Lakes, aimed at students who want to work in the operational, regulatory and business side of aviation rather than as pilots. It shares a first-year foundation with the Bachelor of Aviation's Pilot major, covering flight operations basics, aviation law, and human physiology/psychology in the aviation environment, before specialising into management-focused coursework.

The 144-unit structure (66 core units, 48 units for the Management major, 12 units of work-integrated learning, and 18 electives) covers aviation management, aviation law, human performance in aviation, aviation safety, organisational management, airline finance, economics, project management and strategic management. Students also complete 5 hours of flying experience and 5 hours of observational flying experience — giving management-track students direct exposure to flight operations even though piloting isn't their specialisation — and can choose electives in aviation physics, flight theory and airspace management, or broaden into general business electives such as global tourism, supply chain management and organisational leadership.

The third year includes a real-world, team-based aviation problem-solving project, where students apply their theoretical and technical knowledge to produce a practical solution and report. Graduates are prepared for coordination and management roles across airlines and aviation-adjacent organisations, working with pilots, cabin crew, air traffic controllers and security personnel to keep flight operations safe, efficient and compliant.
