About This Course

Be part of a growing demand for graduates with training in the field of exercise and biomedical sciences. Victoria University's Bachelor of Science in Biomedical and Exercise Science is a dual disciplinary degree. You will learn to apply theoretical knowledge and analytical techniques to a range of practical and clinical scenarios including learning in industry, workplace and community settings. You will also gain experience and develop a solid foundation in designing research methodologies, and performing analytical research by participating in active research as a team member. Victoria University is equipped with new medical research facilities at Sunshine Hospital, and exercise and sport science facilities at our Footscray Park campus.

This course provides a framework for the acquisition of further specialist knowledge and skills, enabling graduates to successfully enter professional settings within the health sector, including industry and research or pursue post-graduate studies in allied health courses. Areas of study and learning outcomes covered include: the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology; biochemistry, biomechanics and kinesiology; how the structure and function of the body is influenced by exercise; how it is impacted by disease. The course structure comprises 24 units, including 8 core units, as listed in the course structure published by VU. Graduates pursue roles and settings such as will be equipped for exercise and health research, often choose to work in scientific, research or sporting science organisations.

General Requirements

Domestic students:

Applicants with recent secondary education: Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English. PLUS: A study score of at least 20 in two of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Health & Human Development, any Mathematics or Physical Education.
Applicants with vocational education & training (VET/TAFE) study: Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent) in Health or Human Services, Training & Development, Community Sports or similar.
Applicants with higher education study: Completion of at least one semester of an Australian Higher Education award (or equivalent). OR: Completion of a bridging or enabling course eg. Foundation course or equivalent.
Applicants with work & life experience: Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate more than two years ago. PLUS: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English (or equivalent). AND: A study score of at least 20 in two of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Health & Human Development, any Mathematics or Physical Education (or equivalent).

International students:

Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English (or equivalent). AND: A study score of at least 20 in two of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Health & Human Development, any Mathematics or Physical Education.
