Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours)

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) allows students to extend the knowledge gained in their undergraduate degree, develop research skills that will equip them for future study at a higher degree level, and work closely with an academic expert to contribute to a particular area of interest.

The honours degree requires 80 credit points, made up of 30 credit points of coursework units and 50 credit points of thesis units. The coursework component covers research methods in biomedical and health sciences research, statistics for biomedical and health sciences research, and communicating research in biomedical and health sciences, all delivered as online scheduled units. The thesis component is studied in multi-mode across the ACU terms: full-time students completing the course in one year take Honours Thesis A followed by Honours Thesis B, while part-time students completing it over two years take Honours Thesis A followed by Honours Thesis C and Honours Thesis D.

Progress through the thesis component is closely monitored by each student's research supervisor, and in all aspects of progress through the course students are advised by the Course Adviser and bound by decisions of the School Committee. The course is offered at ACU's Brisbane, Melbourne and North Sydney campuses over one year of full-time study, with a Semester 1 intake and a midyear intake, and no deferment is available. ACU describes completion of an honours degree as the most efficient pathway to doctoral studies.
