About This Course

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science/Bachelor of Business is designed to develop an understanding of business management and how organisations work that will enhance students' professional careers in a range of biomedical contexts across a range of organisations. The biomedical science component trains students in the core areas of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology and microbiology. Each discipline is introduced through core units, and students undertake detailed study in at least one of them through elective units, learning how the human body functions, what causes disease and how disease is treated. Students also enhance their business knowledge in areas including accounting, finance, marketing, business law and business data management.

The double degree requires 320 credit points: 150 credit points of specified biomedical science units, 10 credit points of community engagement units, 20 credit points of biomedical science electives, 120 credit points of specified business units and 20 credit points of University Core Curriculum units. Students normally complete 100 level units before undertaking related 200 level units, and 200 level units before related 300 level units.

Industry placements in the final year of the degree improve employability on graduation and give students a practical application of their studies. Students are placed in a range of organisations to integrate the theory they learn with practical workplace experience, and must complete the Faculty of Health Sciences pre-placement requirements. The course is offered at ACU's Melbourne and North Sydney campuses, and an Honours year is available to meritorious students with a grade point average of 5.5 who meet the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours).

General Requirements

Domestic students

An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
State prerequisites:
- New South Wales: Pre-requisites: Nil. Assumed knowledge: English (Standard) (Band 3) or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) (Band 4), plus one of Mathematics (any), Biology, Chemistry or Physics (Band 2 for all).
- Queensland: Pre-requisites: Nil. Assumed knowledge: English (Units 3 & 4, C), plus one of General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C for all).
- Victoria: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; and Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in one of Mathematics (any), Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

Applicants with higher education study must still meet the minimum entry requirements and subject prerequisites. Applicants who have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above are assigned a new selection rank reflecting their study level, duration and grade point average, and prior study or relevant work experience may attract credit or recognition of prior learning.
ACU also assesses applicants on recent secondary education, prior VET study, and work and life experience.

An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy. International applicants must meet the same academic requirements and subject prerequisites as domestic applicants, and must meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
IELTS: academic IELTS minimum overall score of 6.5, with a minimum score of 6.0 in all bands, or an equivalent acceptable test score as outlined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
