View full details Bachelor of Biomedicine (specialised) Degree structure The Undergraduate Bachelor's degree consists of: 144 credit points (normally 24 units), which will include: No more than 72 credit points (normally 12 units) of Level 1 units At least 72 credit points (normally 12 units) of Level 2 or Level 3 units, including at least 36 credit points (normally 6 units) of Level 3 units Any relevant foundation units This degree contains four degree-specific extended majors as listed below: MJD-MEDSI Medical Science MJD-IMSCP Integrated Medical Sciences and Clinical Practice* MJD-DENTS Integrated Dental Sciences* MJD-PHMSC Podiatric Health and Medical Sciences* Only available to students on an Assured Pathway Assured pathway students will undertake all eight core Level 1 and 2 units, then meld into their unique Level 3 units alongside postgraduate student candidates within their professional clinical degree. Non-assured pathway students, enrolled in the Extended Major in Medical Science with Specialisation, take the core units at Level 1 and 2 and complete a biomedical specialisation in Level 3. Specialisations include: Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing; Anatomy and Reproductive Biology; Genetics; Human Biology; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Physiology; Pharmacology and Toxicology; Microbiology and Immunology; and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Students may also choose to undertake a minor, provided they will be able to complete all nominated majors and minors within 144 credit points. The degree contains four degree-specific extended majors: the Medical Science Extended Major (which includes multiple specialisations in biomedical disciplines and is available to all students), and three extended majors only available to students on an Assured Pathway — Integrated Medical Sciences and Clinical Practice, Integrated Dental Sciences, and Podiatric Health and Medical Sciences.
The Bachelor of Biomedicine (Specialised) has a minimum ATAR requirement of 92. Entry is competitive, with places being awarded to the highest ranked applicants based on their ATAR or equivalent.
The Bachelor of Biomedicine (Specialised) is a specialised, practical degree designed to articulate with UWA's accredited health professional degrees such as Medicine, Dentistry and Podiatry, with a minimum ATAR of 92. The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is a flexible, comprehensive degree offering a wide range of health science disciplines and a broader choice of majors, with a lower minimum ATAR of 80 (or 70 for Broadway schools).
In the third year, students on an Assured Pathway commence their professional speciality units, while those completing the Medical Science Extended Major complete their specialisation units plus two body systems units.
The degree is designed to provide foundational training in the pre-clinical biomedical sciences and prepares students for higher degree health and medical research, graduate entry into a health or medical profession such as Medicine, Dentistry or Podiatry, or both.
