The Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) is a four-year full-time degree made up of 192 Units of Credit (UOC) across 24 courses plus an honours year. This includes 14 core courses (84 UOC), six level two or three biotechnology electives (36 UOC), two free electives (12 UOC), two general education courses (12 UOC), and an honours year (48 UOC) completed in the fourth year.
The degree offers two key work-integrated learning opportunities. The SCIF3199 Science Work Placement course allows you to gain practical work experience through an internship with IT companies, start-ups, government departments, and large biomedical and biotechnology companies, with course credit awarded for your placement. The SCIF2041 Research Internship course gives you the opportunity to complete a short theoretical or experimental research project supervised by academic staff, with some internships involving external placements through funded research programs.
For domestic students in 2026, the lowest selection rank (ATAR plus adjustment factors) is 83.0, and the lowest ATAR before adjustment factors is 68.1. Assumed knowledge in Chemistry and Mathematics Advanced is expected. Adjustment factors are available through schemes such as HSC Plus (up to 5 points), Elite Athletes Performers and Leaders (up to 5 points), and the Educational Access Scheme (1–10 points). Pathway options including the Gateway Admission Pathway and Indigenous entry programs are also available.
For domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $8,500, with an indicative full fee to complete the degree of $39,000. For international students, the 2026 indicative first year full fee is $61,500, with an indicative full fee to complete the degree of $269,000. These fees are for tuition only and are subject to annual review.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) can pursue careers across a broad range of fields including scientific research, marketing, biotech investment and finance, sales, and business development. Specific roles include research and development managers, clinical trial associates, government regulation and policy advisors, industry regulatory affairs specialists, and intellectual property managers. Graduates are employed by medical research organisations, pharmaceutical multinationals, large life-sciences companies, legal firms, government research institutes, and universities.
