Common Questions
Yes, Victoria University is the only university in Victoria offering a Bachelor of Building Surveying, making it a unique and specialised degree for those looking to enter the building surveying profession in the state.
The Bachelor of Building Surveying is accredited by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) to meet the educational requirements for Building Surveyor Level 2 registration with AIBS. Graduates are also eligible for registration with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) in the building surveyor (unlimited) class, provided they complete three years of relevant work experience after graduating.
For eligible domestic students, the course is available as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), with indicative fees for a full-time student in 2026 being approximately AU$9,537 per year. This fee is a guide only and does not include materials such as textbooks or the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). Students may be able to use a HELP loan to defer tuition fees, repaid through the tax system once income exceeds the compulsory repayment threshold.
Yes, credit may be available for prior study. For example, completing an Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying, Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural), or a Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) can provide 96 credit points towards the degree, and also guarantees entry into the course. You can use VU's credit calculator to estimate what credit you may be eligible for based on your previous studies.
In third year, you'll bring together everything you've learned in the course to focus on an applied real-world project sourced from an industry partner. Working within a small team, you'll take responsibility for the design, planning and organisation of your project. Key units include High Rise Development and Compliance, Advanced Building Surveying, Building Surveying Project 1 and 2, Building Services Management, Construction Economics, and Complex Construction.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
