Common Questions
Yes, the Financial Planning major is a recognised and accredited major. To obtain an accredited financial planning degree and achieve Financial Advice Association Australia (FAAA) membership, you work towards meeting Financial Adviser Standards education requirements. If you also complete the Financial Planning and Tax minor (specifically ACCT1060 Managerial Advisory Finance, LAW2453 Taxation 1, and LAW2442 Business Law), you will meet the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA)'s approved degree requirement and be eligible to register as a Financial Planner following graduation.
The major covers a broad range of financial planning topics including personal financial planning, taxation effective investment planning, investments into bonds, shares and property, risk profile analysis, estate planning, superannuation and retirement planning, and personal insurance needs analysis and insurance advice. You will also learn about the changing regulatory and legal environment in Australia and common tax effective investments and superannuation strategies.
Yes, you can tailor your studies by combining the Financial Planning major with a choice from 14 majors and 32 minor areas within the Bachelor of Business. Suggested complementary combinations include the Financial Planning and Tax minor (which also helps meet FASEA requirements), the Accounting in Business minor, the Economics major, and the Finance major. You can also undertake this major within the Bachelor of Business Professional Practice or as part of a range of RMIT double degrees.
Graduates are prepared for roles such as financial planner, wealth manager, retirement planner, financial consultant, and paraplanner. Entry-level positions like paraplanners can start at around AU$70,000 per year, while senior roles such as financial planners or wealth managers can exceed AU$100,000, depending on experience and industry. The demand for financial planning professionals continues to rise, particularly as individuals seek personalised strategies for managing their finances.
The Bachelor of Business with the Financial Planning major is available at the Melbourne City campus with intakes in February and July. The course takes 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time. Domestic students may be eligible for Commonwealth Supported Places. For international students, the annual fee is AU$45,120 (2026), with additional intakes in October also available.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
