About This Course

Business information specialists analyse business problems and find possible IT solutions for these problems; from running an efficiency audit on a company's information systems to analysing the effectiveness of a file management system and designing business software applications. You will study the fundamentals of computer science and IT: programming, problem-solving, network and communications, web technology, data management, system analysis, human-computer interaction, and project management. This degree is specifically designed to prepare you for a career as a systems analyst or an information systems specialist. As well as having the capability of working in a business environment, graduates can work for the government or non-profit organisations. The Bachelor of Business Information Systems covers business analysis systems and design, programming, data management, business systems infrastructure and security. You will also study key commerce subjects such as accounting and management. In your final year you will develop your own application as part of a student team project, developing solutions to real-world problems provided by our industry partners.

Requirements

Assumed Knowledge: UOW assumes students will have studied any two units of English.
Recommended Studies: Ideally, students will have studied Mathematics Advanced or Mathematics Standard 2.
Recent Secondary Education: Minimum Selection Rank of 75 (ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any adjustments).
Other accepted high-school qualifications include: GCE A-Levels, New Zealand NCEA Level 3, and overseas senior secondary qualifications comparable to Australian qualifications.
Students may be admitted via Early Admission.
Higher Education Study: Applicants must have completed at least half a year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at a Bachelor's degree level or higher, previously studied in the areas of Natural and Physical Sciences, or Information Technology or Engineering.
Work and life experience is generally not considered for admission; applicants not meeting academic requirements are encouraged to explore pathway programs such as UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people may apply through UOW's Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP).
Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications must provide academic records, with the course at least one-sixth complete; non-English documents must include an official English translation.
English Language Proficiency: If English is not your first language, you must meet the University's English Language Requirements. Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
